Welcome to the Sunshine Coast Palate
We are delighted to be bringing you this deep dive into the food and drink culture of British Columbia’s Lower Sunshine Coast.
From Gibsons to xwesam (Roberts Creek) to ch’atlich (Sechelt) to salalus (Madeira Park) to Egmont, we aim to represent all that this unique region has to offer a passionate foodie. Our vision for this magazine is to provide a fun, funky, informative and inventive look at what makes food and drink on the Sunshine Coast happen, from farming to fishing to foraging, to the people and businesses that keep us fed from nature’s bounty at the Sunshine Coast’s tremendous variety of restaurants, pop-ups, breweries and food trucks, to home cooks sharing their favorite recipes.
Sunshine Coast Palate is a free, ad supported magazine that aims to promote Sunshine Coast businesses to visitors and locals alike. We are interested in working with businesses to showcase the range and abundance of great food and beverage options on the Coast. If you like what you see here and care to join us for this edition, please be in touch. I am eager to discuss how Sunshine Coast Palate can help meet your advertising needs during these challenging, unprecedented, but innovation-inspiring times.
A note from Jody "Shaggy Jack" Franklin, Editor & Art Director
A Dynamic New Local Food Magazine
Sunshine Coast Palate is a labour of love and a direct product of my participation in the local food scene the past few years, where I'm best known as "Shaggy Jack," mushroom forager and educator.
I've had the pleasure of tabling at farmers' markets, dealing with chefs, and working alongside local farmers, foragers and food artisans.
In editing and designing this new local food magazine, I am enthusiastically furthering this engagement with the folks in our community by offering food producers and providers with an ongoing platform to share their experience and expertise, opinions and adventures, in the world of local food.
From tackling important issues around food sustainability to covering the people and their ventures that sustain us, Sunshine Coast Palate aims to reflect the diversity and creativity in our local food community. Utilizing bold, contemporary design schemes, we hope to inspire consumers and producers alike to delve deeper into the collective palate of the Sunshine Coast.
We are happy to be working with local food writers and photographer extraordinaire Chloe Langmaid to help bring the highest quality possible editorial and visual content to Coastal foodies.
If you are a writer with a story to pitch, have a recipe or DIY tips, or have an idea for a local food story we should cover, contact me.
